Show Notes
On the first episode of Make This : Do That, I spoke to Daniel King about how to go about beginning to think about integrating a digital audio file into an existing piece of print media. Below are some links to products and pages that were mentioned during the podcast. Additionally Daniel is working on a project called “New Old Image eXchange” details can be found here.
- A variety of chip based sound recording and playback devices mostly used for greeting cards. Short duration, limited configuration, but inexpensive price point
- MP3 player board module with integrated amplifier. This option would allow the user to use multiple and longer audio files. It does add a need for a rechargeable battery or a continuously connected power source (any USB 5v source should work, phone chargers, etc.) It would also be possible to use something like an Adafruit wireless charging module to charge this wirelessly.
- The final option we touched on is an Arduino based one. There are numerous examples of this kind of prior art out there, one such is available here. This option likely involves the most effort and the largest learning curve. It does enable the maker to have more control over the inputs the object can accept as well as customized responsiveness and outputs.
